Treatment of Pyorrhea

Pyorrhea, also known as periodontitis, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and can destroy the bone that supports your teeth if left untreated. The treatment of pyorrhea involves a combination of professional dental care and good oral hygiene practices. The first step is usually scaling and root planing, a deep-cleaning procedure done by a dentist or periodontist to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. In more severe cases, antibiotic therapy may be recommended, either in the form of mouth rinses, gels, or oral medications to control bacterial infection. If the condition has advanced, surgical treatments like flap surgery (to clean infected areas under the gums) or bone and tissue grafts (to regenerate lost bone or gum tissue) may be necessary. Along with professional care, patients are advised to maintain excellent oral hygiene by brushing twice daily with a soft-bristled brush, flossing regularly, and using an antiseptic mouthwash. Avoiding tobacco and managing underlying conditions like diabetes also play a crucial role in preventing the recurrence of pyorrhea. Regular dental checkups are essential to monitor and maintain gum health over time.
